The estate is a boutique vineyard with the vines planted atop a ridge overlooking the region, with Redesdale to the east and Mt Alexander to the west, at an altitude of 330m. To capture even sunlight, our vines run north to south, on north facing hills in well-drained deep red podsolic soils punctuated with sandstone and quartz ridges.
The ‘hilly situation’ provides well-ventilated vines to assist the growing season. The vineyards stretch across ten acres – the majority of which is Shiraz; a variety the region is famed for; and a small proportion of Viognier and Vermentino.
‘From a climatic perspective, 2019 was an affable vintage. It produced fruit from this esteemed vineyard with a depth of flavour that we haven’t seen in a number of vintages. It is impressive. A considered decision to fashion this wine without oak, is our way of respecting the fruit quality inherent in this wine.’ Adam Marks, Wine-Maker.
Currently, the vineyard produces an abundance of superb grapes which are sold to well-known wineries throughout this wonderful wine-making region and beyond although we do produce a limited quantity of our own wine for retail, promotional and our on use.
Viticulturist and wine-maker Adam Marks is our wine-maker. Adam has more than 25 years of international experience and he is best known for establishing Bress in 2001 with a desire to produce wines, via fruit sourced from notable viticultural regions, using a minimal intervention approach in the winery.
